Premier League Summer Transfer Window: Record Deals and Hijacks Define 2026 Window
0
The 2026 Premier League summer transfer window swung open on June 15 and clubs wasted no time flexing their financial muscle. Arsenal set a new British transfer record by splashing €135 million on Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, while also securing Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie for a permanent €52 million move.
Chelsea were among the busiest sides, bringing in a wave of young talent: Sporting CP winger Geovany Quenda (€50m), Atalanta full-back Marco Palestra (€57m), Corinthians prospect Denner (€10m), Kairat Almaty’s Dastan Satpaev (€2.4m), and Strasbourg forward Emmanuel Emegha for an undisclosed fee. The Blues also sold Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid for €55 million in a surprise switch.
Liverpool made headlines by beating Chelsea to Stade Rennais centre-back Jeremy Jacquet and hijacking Newcastle’s move for Osasuna winger Victor Munoz. Tottenham were equally aggressive, completing deals for Liverpool’s Andy Robertson, Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi, Newcastle’s Martin Dubravka, Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke, Sporting’s Mateus Fernandes, and AC Milan’s Sandro Tonali.
Brighton fought off late hijack attempts from Chelsea and Newcastle to sign AIK striker Zadok Yohanna for €28 million, and also brought in Leeds centre-back Pascal Struijk (€23.2m), Olympiacos full-back Costinha (€12.7m), Venezia’s Michael Svoboda (€5m), and Benfica youngster Rodrigo Rego (€3.5m).
Newcastle completed a significant early move before the World Cup by signing Reims goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen. Elsewhere, Aston Villa picked up LASK forward Modou Keba Cisse for €5.5 million, Bournemouth landed AC Milan’s Alex Jimenez for €18.5 million, and Brentford added RB Salzburg midfielder Jannik Schuster for €18 million.
The window runs until September 1, and more deals are expected as clubs fine-tune their squads for the new campaign.
