Rangers ready to hijack Celtic's Fares Ghedjemis pursuit in €10m battle

Rangers have entered the race to sign Frosinone forward Fares Ghedjemis and are reportedly trying to hijack Celtic's renewed pursuit of the Algerian. Celtic looked set to land the 23-year-old in the January window but were not prepared to meet Frosinone's €10 million asking price, so the move collapsed. The Hoops have since revived their interest, only to discover that Rangers are now pushing to beat them to the punch. According to broadcaster Italy, via the Daily Record, Rangers have joined the chase and are working to derail Celtic's plans before the summer window closes. Celtic had rekindled their interest in Ghedjemis, with The Herald reporting that the winger was again on their radar. Celtic moved for Joel Mvuka on loan after the winter deal for Ghedjemis fell through, but the spell in Glasgow did not go well. The club have already added Camilo Duran from Qarabag and Kasper Hogh from Bodo/Glimt this summer, yet they still want more firepower. Ghedjemis produced 15 goals and three assists in 37 Serie B games last season. Frosinone continue to hold out for €10 million, even though his estimated transfer value is only €2.6 million. General manager Pietro Doronzo believes the forward is now worth double that original valuation. He said Celtic made a major offer in January, but the player chose to stay and chase the title, a decision that has since paid off. Doronzo also credited Ghedjemis for Frosinone's climb up the table. Data analysts SciSports view Rangers as a marginally better option for the Algeria international, giving the club a Club Fit score of 71 compared with Celtic's 68.
