Hjerto-Dahl opens up on failed Rangers move: 'It's in the back of my mind'

Jens Hjerto-Dahl has admitted that his abandoned move to Rangers this summer is still playing on his mind. Rangers are reported to have walked away after Tromso set a €10m (£8.5m) price for the 20-year-old, following an earlier €6m (£5.3m) bid that was turned down. The midfielder said: "I'm aware of it [transfer interest], and there have been two or three occasions where I've had to make a decision about things. It's in the back of my mind. It's not always easy, but it's fine during training and matches. It's more of an issue when I'm at home in the evenings." Hjerto-Dahl spoke after Tromso were knocked out of the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, losing 4-1 on aggregate to Czech side FC Hradec Kralove. He has scored seven goals in 15 games so far in 2026 and is rated among Norway's top young talents. Premier League newcomers Hull City have now been linked with the powerful midfielder, and he made no secret of his interest. "It's great. The biggest league in the world, and the one most people watch. Hull is a cool team," he said. "If I do leave, it certainly won't be the last time people see me at the stadium. I was born and raised in this club and city." Rangers, meanwhile, are preparing for Friday's Scottish Premiership opener at Dundee United after a busy summer window. They have added eight players to Derek McInnes' squad, with goalkeeper Ivor Pandur, defenders Ross McCrorie and Olwethu Makhanya, midfielders Vanja Dragojevic, Dan Neil and Cammy Devlin, and striker Lawrence Shankland all arriving on permanent deals. Ben Godfrey has joined on a season-long loan from Serie A outfit Atalanta.
